Which kind of liquid can be stored in Liquid Storage Tanks?

Each element or component in this world has to be preserved in a proper way, so that each of them can be endured for a long time. Therefore, considering the shapes, sizes, patterns and various other attributes of all the elements, different kinds of storage containers are being produced.

Now, the list of kinds of storage containers includes ‘tanks’, that are generally called as storage tanks. The storage tanks are the containers that store various types of liquids, compressed gases or mediums that are used for the short-term or long-term storage of heat or cold. Such storage tanks can also be called as liquid storage tanks.

A liquid storage tank is usually a large, heavy and gauge steel tank; the use of which can be done in various things such as large cleanup operations, oil field operations or just for the temporary storage of water or other liquids. These storage tanks are manufactured on the basis of the attributes of the various kinds of liquids and their requirements. But which kind of liquid largely can be stored in liquid storage tanks? The answer to the question is described in detail as below:

Liquid Storage Tanks

Water:

Water, which is formed naturally and is most common but utmost precious liquid in the world, is one of the kinds of liquids that can be stored in liquid storage tanks including everything from waste water and ground water to an industrial cleaning operation or a drilling operation. The types of water that can be stored in tanks include the following:

  • Ground water
  • Rain/storm water
  • Waste water
  • Snow (solid/melted)
  • Contaminated water
  • Demineralized water
  • Distilled water
  • Salt water

Chemicals:

Liquid storage tanks is capable to store several different kinds of low concentration chemicals, which can be helpful to preserve chemicals like fertilisers and pesticides, pharmaceuticals, acid in low concentration, etc. The most chemicals frequently stored in tanks include:

  • Sodium hydroxide
  • Magnesium hydroxide
  • Aluminum chloride
  • Ferrous chloride
  • Fatty acid
  • Sulfuric acid (under 65% concentration)
  • Ammonium nitrate
  • Boric acid
  • Citric acid
  • Hydrochloric acid
  • Phosphoric acid

Fuels:

Different types of fuels can also be stored in liquid storage tanks, the types of which include:

  • Jet fuel
  • Diesel fuel
  • Auto fuel
  • Biodiesel
  • Crude oil/petroleum gasoline
  • Natural gas
  • Ethanol

Oil:

The oil and gas, which is extracted from the plants, animals or mineral resources, and used for the lubrication, insulation or food preparation, is one of the types of liquids to be stored in liquid storage tanks. The types of oil which the tanks can hold are:

  • Transformer oil
  • Lube oil
  • Processing oil
  • Quench oil
  • Mineral oil
  • Cottonseed oil
  • Soybean oil

Cryogenic gases:

The permanent gases such as helium, hydrogen, neon, nitrogen, oxygen, etc. when converted to a liquid form by cooling them to an extremely low temperature, for any specific purpose, are known as liquefied gases or cryogenic gases. These gases are also stored in liquid storage tanks. But, as per the discussion done earlier, considering the attributes of these liquefied gases, a different type of liquid storage tank is manufactured to store them, which is known as cryogenic storage tank.

And so, these were few kinds of liquids that are generally stored in liquid storage tanks, so that they can be preserved and used for a long time.
